Strategy and Action Secret No. 2

5 Secrets for Getting What You Want: Strategy and Action

5 Secrets Lesson 2I’m thrilled you’re here for Secret #2 for Getting What You Want!

These are the same secrets I’ve used to go from struggling and unhappy with the path my life was taking to turning things around and creating life exactly the way I want it.

Today, I live life on my terms, unlike those days I still remember, when nothing seemed to go quite my way.

I would find a job I liked and then something would happen and it was all I could do to bear going in every day.

Or… I’d find a guy I liked and before long, I was crying in my beer rather than toasting the town.

I’m here to tell you, it’s not that way for me anymore and it doesn’t have to be that way for you. Because I’m here to share with you 5 Secrets that will turn your life around.

If you missed the first two installments in this series, you should read them first. You can find them here:

Secret No. 2

Strategy + Action, or…

Strategizing your actions.

Now that you are crystal clear on exactly what you want to achieve, it’s time to come up with some ideas about how you’ll make it happen.

Making change without a strategy, is kind of like trying to get from New York to Los Angeles without a map – murky, confusing and frustrating. With a map, it’s clear, easy and fun – take this turn, then this one, then the next. Makes sense, right?

Unfortunately, you can’t just twinkle your nose and get there – you have to have a plan – or a strategy in place. And then, act on it!

So again, grab that pen and paper, and let’s sketch out a plan for getting to your goal.

What do you need to do first? What are some things you might want to try that will help you? If your goal is to lose 10 pounds this month, your strategy might include first joining Weight Watchers or Curves and then getting an exercise buddy.

If you start to feel stuck, sit back and consider the goal you have. If you could break your goal into three main stages, what would those three stages be?

Once you’ve come up with a plan, start acting on it today!

Call that friend to see if she or he will be your exercise buddy. Check out Weight Watchers, Curves or even Atkins.com. (Always check with your doctor before starting any of this stuff though, right?)

If you want to start a business, what steps do you need to take?

Building your business? What have you done in the past that worked?

Once you have a plan and take even that initial step toward achieving it, it becomes a lot more manageable, enjoyable and simple to move forward.

The best (and perhaps most overlooked) part of this is that as you achieve each step, you build momentum to keep cruising forward effortlessly to the next step.

Some coaches call this “chunking,” (i.e. breaking your goal down into more manageable parts).

Share with us in the comments below, your first step and how you executed it.
