Keeping a Journal is Essential to Creating Abundance – Here’s Why.
There are many reasons keeping a journal is essential to creating an abundant life, but what are they?
When you’re in the depths of despair, you may feel as if you have absolutely nothing to be grateful for.
As Mom would have said, “Au contraire, mon freir.” (She told me it’s French for: “To the contrary, my friend.”)
If you’re still breathing, you have something to be thankful for. If your limbs work, you have something to express gratitude for.
But what does this have to do with creating a life of abundance?
Being Thankful for the Things You Have has Absolutely Everything to do with Creating a Life of Abundance!
Now I don’t believe God is a petty god. In fact, I associate God and what we call “The Universe” as exactly the same thing.
Whether you call your Higher Power God, Goddess or Horatio – doesn’t really matter in my book. Call it whatever you want. What is important is how you associate that Power with creating abundance.
Now to my point…
Think of it this way: If you had a child who took everything for granted and was never grateful for the many things you do for her in a day, how much would you be inclined to do nice things for her?
Probably not much, right?
More importantly, why would you want to be around someone who is so negative and brings you down into the depths of despair with her?
There’s an Even More Important Reason for Keeping a Journal of Gratitude
When you focus on negativity, not only does it stress you the hell out, it attracts even more negativity to you. I know that statement is a double-edged sword. Stick with me for a moment and I’ll explain.
I remember when I first heard about The Secret. It made perfect sense to me and I was ready to step up. I was tired of struggling with lack. I had known for a few years by this time that I must have some money blocks. The Secret seemed like the perfect way to overcome those weasly little monsters.
The trouble I ran into is that every time I worried about money, I freaked out. I was sure that I had just ruined all of the hard work I had done in trying to stay positive. That’s exactly what The Secret teaches you, isn’t it – and that’s exactly what I just told you.
Because of that and the fear it engendered in me, The Secret just didn’t seem worth pursuing. So I gave up on it. I don’t want to live my life in fear. However…
A few years (that felt like a hundred), I finally discovered my own little secret to combat the freaking out. And that secret is keeping a Gratitude Journal.
There is so much in our lives that we take for granted everyday. If you are having trouble keeping your eye on the ball of positivity…
I Have One Exceedingly Important Tip for You Today – So Listen Up
Focus on what you have to be grateful for.
>Let me repeat that – it’s that important.
Focus on what you have to be thankful for.
Here is a short list of the types of things I focus on when my mind wanders to negativity:
- A roof over my head
- Running water
- Clean, delicious drinking water
- A long, luscious shower
- A washer and dryer so I don’t have to wash clothes by hand
- A comfortable bed
- An adorable dog who amuses me greatly
- The love of good friends
- The sun
- The moon
- The stars
- All my limbs work
All things we mostly take for granted, right? But how awesome are all of these things?!
If you’re struggling with negativity and gratitude, keeping a gratitude journal will help you to focus on the positive. When you realize all of the things you have to be thankful for that you don’t even think about from day-to-day, it kind of brings things back into focus, doesn’t it?
